What is AYSO anyway?
AYSO is a national organization with more than 600,000 children playing soccer. The AYSO mission is to develop and deliver quality youth soccer programs which promote a fun, family environment based on our philosophies:
Why does every family have to volunteer?
AYSO is a volunteer organization. That means that no one at the local level gets paid to make this program work for all of our children. It is simply not fair for others to do the work, while someone whose child is also benefiting does nothing towards contributing to the whole program. Organization within a team, bringing snacks for the team, etc., are nice and important but do nothing to make the program as a whole work.
Please do your share.
What is the connection between AYSO and the City of LA Department of Recreation and Parks?
None, with the exception of using their fields, which we pay for. Although the City operates adult soccer leagues and the occasional park-based program such as at Palms Park and Westwood Park, AYSO is the nationwide non-profit organization that develops and delivers quality youth recreational soccer programs in our neighborhood.
What is this PIE I hear about and what does it mean?
PIE stands for Positive, Instructional, and Encouraging. It is a philosophy that we teach our coaches to use when dealing with players. This means no negative comments towards a player when a mistake is made or fails to perform to the coach’s standards or expectations. Referees do have the authority to eject coaches, parents or spectators who verbally abuse a player. So please keep all comments consistent with these parameters.
Is there a program for children with special needs?
Yes! The VIP program is designed to meet the needs of physically and mentally challenged children. Please call 310 454 KICK or send an e-mail to info@ayso69.org for additional information about this program in our own Area 1P. |
