What are select teams?
There are 3 types of select teams:

Thanksgiving Tournament Teams,

Area 1P All Star Tournament Teams, and

Traveling Tournament Teams.

Which age groups have select teams?
Select teams are chosen for U10 through U14.

When do select teams play?
The Thanksgiving Tournament
is on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.
The Area 1P All Star Tournament
games are in the West L.A. area on weekends beginning in January, continuing for at least three weeks and longer if the team is successful.
Traveling Tournament
games are played throughout the greater LA area and beyond on weekends beginning in December, continuing throughout the summer, depending on the coach and the team.

When do select teams practice?
The coaches of these teams will schedule practices for the tournament teams in addition to the players’ regular team practices. Regular team practices take priority over select team practices. The All Star Tournament does conflict with basketball and may conflict with the beginning of the baseball season, so keep this in mind when deciding whether to try out for the All Star Team.
How many players are selected for each team?
Tournament teams have 10-15 players, depending on each team. Players can try out for the Thanksgiving team, the All Star team or both. The players chosen for the Thanksgiving team may or may not be on the All Star team also. The Traveling Team coach selects the Traveling Tournament Team.
What are the expectations of players?
Players who are on tournament teams are expected to attend all practices and all tournament games.

Selection to one of these teams is an honor.
If selected, players and their families represent more than 1,300 players and their families in Region 70, West LA.
Accordingly, only the very highest standard of behavior and sportsmanship, on and off the field, by all participants is acceptable.
Who must tryout and when?
Tryout attendance is mandatory for all players to be considered for selection. Please check the Region 70 Calendar page for the exact date in October.
Who is eligible to tryout?
Players registered in Region 70 are eligible to tryout. However, tournament rules may dictate which players may be included in the roster. Please check the Area 1P website for All Star eligibility requirements.
When will the teams be announced? Teams will be announced here on our website: * Thanksgiving team by November 1, and
* All Star team by November, 30.
The All Star team cannot begin practicing until December 1.
What paperwork must be filled out to tryout?
A tryout form must be completed beforehand for each player who wishes to be considered for selection. Please click here to request the form.
How much does it cost to be on a Select Team?
The All Star Team is considered to be an extension of the core program season so there is no additional cost.
Turkey teams are an addition to the program so are self-financed. The cost per player usually ranges from $50 - $75.
Traveling tournament teams are also an addition to the program so are self-financed. The cost per player usually approximates $50 per tournament and the total cost is dependant on how many tournaments each team decides to participate in. Families choosing to participate in these teams are required to make an up-front financial commitment to cover all costs anticipated to be incurred by these teams.
