How do the points work?
The standings "rank" the teams on a system of 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, zero for a loss.
What is the relevance of goals?
In the event of a tie on points, head-to head results is the first tie-breaker, followed by goal difference. If goal difference does not break the tie, least goals conceded is the next tie-breaker. To further AYSO’s philosophy of good sportsmanship, we limit the goal difference in any one game to 3 goals, reducing the number of goals scored if necessary.
How are the standings maintained?
Divisional commissioners keep the standings based on the team game cards. Divisional commissioners forward the league standings to the webmaster for posting on this website.
How do the commissioners get the team game cards?
At the end of each game, the winning team’s coach takes both game cards (after they are signed by the refs) or, in case of a tie, the home team should take the game cards and get them to the Divisional Commissioner. If we do not get the game cards, the league standings cannot be updated.
