None of us get paid to do what we do for our kids’ soccer program. We need the parents of each player to volunteer to help in some way. In other words, without parent participation, the kids cannot play. The Regional Commissioner makes it all happen (definitely in West LA) and is responsible for all aspects of the operation of the region. The RC organizes and supervises the regional board, convenes board and executive committee meetings, attends Area meetings and represents the region to higher levels of AYSO and to the community. This is not a job for the faint of heart and requires many talents and attributes, which are typical of the leading figure in any organization. LOCAL SCHOOLS' OUTREACH COORDINATOR Working with the Webmaster, the Local Schools' Outreach Coordinator provides sign up information and/or flyers each year to publicize the region's registration days. REGISTRATION DAY VOLUNTEER Accept sign up paperwork and check to ensure it is complete at one or more of our sign up days. Your player's registration will be guaranteed, absent any extenuating circumstances. Prior experience is not required. VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR Working with the RC, the Volunteer Coordinator identifies the Region’s needs each year, recruits and trains new volunteers for the region and ensures that volunteers feel appreciated, which of course they are! FIELDS COORDINATOR Working with the RC, the Fields Coordinator is responsible for obtaining fields permits and liaising with the maintenance staff to maximize the quality of the playing surfaces. He/she shall ensure that fields are properly marked. REGIONAL SAFETY DIRECTOR The regional Safety director is responsible for all aspects of the region’s safety and oversee the equipment, nets, fields, and clean-up for fields of the region. TEAM MONITOR COORDINATOR Recruiting, training and assisting Team Monitors throughout the season is the primary focus for this important position.. DIVISIONAL COMMISSIONER Every Division needs a Commissioner to help with team formation and division management. The Commissioner is also responsible for observing sideline and team conduct during games. Prior experience is not required. CHILD AND VOLUNTEER PROTECTION ADVOCATE (“CVPA”) This is a board level position. The CVPA is responsible for implementing AYSO policies and programs for protecting players and volunteers, including Kids Zone. Responsible for facilitating the conduct of background checks of volunteers and safeguarding related information. The CVPA also promotes positive coaching practices and appropriate behavior by players, volunteers and parents. REGIONAL REGISTRAR This is a board level position. The Registrar is responsible for planning and implementing the annual registration of players and volunteers and Interfaces with the National AYSO office regarding registration. REGIONAL TREASURER Responsibility for the finances of the region resides with this board level position. The Treasurer Issues checks and maintains bank accounts, collects and safeguards registration fees, submits fees to higher levels of AYSO and prepares periodic financial reports for the RC and Board. REFEREE The referee is always in the middle of the action. We provide an AYSO referee-training clinic to make sure you are adequately trained and almost all of your equipment (cleats and a time piece are the exceptions). Our training is geared towards individuals with no prior soccer knowledge or experience. Referees set their own schedule, to allow them to enjoy their own childrens’ games, at an age level that is best suited to their training, experience and preference. The Region 70 West LA referee mentoring program has been created to provide all new referees with an experienced referee to guide and help them get comfortable on the field. Once you try refereeing, you'll be hooked! We ask that referees sign up to officiate a minimum of one game each week, at least two by October 15. However, you can referee more often if you like and less often if necessary. We are always in need of more referees. We can't play without them. Do you want more information? Please click here if you do. REFEREE SCHEDULER Referee schedulers are vital to the referee program. Each division, e.g., Girls U12, has its own scheduler. Working together with the Referee Administration Tem, schedulers are provided with game schedules and rosters of trained referees who are suitable for that division. Each week of the season, our schedulers work with their team of referees to ensure every game has a referee. Prior experience is not required, we provide the necessary training (just 1 hour). E-mail and some knowledge of a spreadsheet or word processing program is needed. Do you want more information? Please click here if you do. COACH Being a coach can be the most fun and rewarding volunteer position. It allows the parent to share in the excitement with the children. The coach is responsible for training the team, typically once a week, and supervising the team during games. Prior experience is not required. AYSO has coaching clinics for all experience levels. Do you want more information? Please click here if you do. ASSISTANT COACH The assistant coach helps the coach run the practices and manage the team at games. When the coach cannot be present, the assistant coach acts in the coach's place. Although, no experience is required, assistant coaches must attend the complete basic coach training class. This unique AYSO class prepares all volunteers to interact with kids, ensuring that AYSO’s child development principles are passed onto those who we entrust our children to for hours each week. We will provide AYSO’s specially designed coaching clinics for you. Do you want more information? Please click here if you do. TEAM MONITOR The Team Monitor, assists the Coach to manage the sidelines on game day. The primary role of the Monitor is to help us all to remember that this is a child development program and to reinforce all of the positive behavior of AYSO’s Kids Zone. This helps to maximize the kids’ enjoyment of their AYSO experience and prevent unpleasant incidents at our fields. No experience is necessary, just a very cool temperament. Do you want more information? Please click here if you do. TEAM MANAGER The team parent, or Team Manager, organizes and manages the parents to maximize the kids’ enjoyment of their AYSO experience. They schedule the parents for providing snacks, bringing water and half-time refreshments. They organize an occasional after-game activity, the team trophies and pictures. No experience is necessary, just enthusiasm. UNIFORM COORDINATOR Working with the Regional Commissioner, the Uniform Buyer is responsible for evaluating potential vendors and products and presenting the information to the board. Once the decisions have been made, the Uniform Buyer selects, orders and receives uniforms for distribution to each divisional commissioner before the season starts. The Uniform Buyer also orders Turkey Tournament, All Star and Traveling Tournament Team uniforms and any other items needed by the Region. TROPHY COORDINATOR Obtain the lists of all of the teams and their players and purchase all of the trophies for the entire region. PICTURE DAY COORDINATOR Produce the schedule for the team photos and schedule volunteers for picture day. |
